A Preventive Approach Rooted in Development
Rather than focusing only on reactive measures, or school in San José has implemented a structured Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program, designed to support the development of the whole learner intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically.
Guided by the internationally recognized CASEL framework, our program develops key competencies such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These are essential not only for academic success, but also for building a respectful, inclusive, and healthy school environment.
Addressing the Root Causes of Bullying
Our SEL program is intentionally designed to address the dynamics most associated with bullying.
Learners begin by developing a strong sense of belonging and respect, understanding the importance of inclusion and the impact their actions have on others. They then learn to recognize and manage their emotions, helping reduce impulsive behaviors that can lead to conflict.
Through the development of relationship skills, learners strengthen communication, empathy, and conflict resolution. At the same time, they build the capacity to make responsible decisions, especially in situations involving peer pressure.
The program also emphasizes resilience and a growth mindset, empowering learners to navigate challenges with confidence. It culminates in purpose and leadership, encouraging them to take an active and positive role within our community.
