High School Curriculum

High School is the final stage of secondary education at Blue Valley. Our High School curriculum is designed to offer students a comprehensive education and equip them for future success. From ninth to twelfth grade, students can pursue three distinct pathways either separately or simultaneously, leading to one, two, or three high school diplomas upon graduation.

Irrespective of the chosen program, students must undertake core courses in English, Spanish, math, science, and social studies each semester. These essential courses, complemented by mandatory sports, arts, and technology requirements, ensure students receive a well-rounded educational experience, preparing them for the most ambitious future endeavors.

Costa Rican High School Diploma

The first option is the National Baccalaureate diploma, fulfilling the Costa Rican Ministry of Education's requirements for completing secondary studies in 11th grade. Students can graduate at this stage if their university or professional path aligns with it, or they can continue to 12th grade to complete other curricula options. From 9th to 11th grade, 252 periods (42 per week during each of the six semesters) plus the 32 8th Grade credits complete the required 284 credits to graduate from Blue Valley.

US High School Diploma

Students may also pursue a US High School Diploma accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. This diploma requires the completion of two semesters of United States History, successful completion of 12th grade, and fulfillment of standard Blue Valley School requirements.

IB Diploma Program

For those seeking greater challenges and the most globally respected pre-university program, we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP), accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Beginning with prerequisites in 10th grade, the formal 2-year program officially commences in 11th grade and culminates in 12th grade upon completion of the IB exams, which can be taken either in May or November.
